OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Certification

Health always comes first, no matter the topic. Oeko-Tex standard 100 is a certificate that grants it, and as Akasia Design, we are proud that our products have it. Your home is the place where you would want to feel most secure, and Oeko-Tex standard 100 certification ensures your well-being when you get in touch with a textile product.

If a textile product is not labeled with the Oeko-Tex standard 100 certifications, it means that not every part of the product is certified. From Pillow covers to tablecloths and bath maths, the scale of certified products is constantly growing each year.

What is OEKO-TEX?

Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification means that every little part of an article is tested for harmful substances: Every thread, button, and other product part is harmless to human health. And, especially for babies that have sensitive skins, Standard 100 is a label that is looked for.

The product criteria catalog is changed yearly because of the rapidly growing market and new scientific knowledge. Criteria catalog for the standard 100 consists of 55 pages of regulated or nonregulated substances that can harm humans.

The criteria are applied to every part of the article. That means every piece is carefully tested, from the stitching to the outer material and the coating. There are a total of 4 product classes categorized by their utilization and functionalities.

The Process of Receiving Oeko-Tex Standard 100

A company that wants to get the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification must give a sample of all their products. From studs to sewing threads, labels to buttons, every little thing must have a sample to be tested for harmful substances.

Then, the samples will be analyzed in a laboratory at one of the Oeko-Tex member institutes. The Certificate is then given to the products after they meet the required compliance Oeko-Tex standards. After the successful test, a declaration of conformity will be given to the company.

The audits will be conducted shortly after the certification process is done. These audits will be taken at least every three years. However, to verify continued compliance with the limited values, annual checks will be conducted for at least %25 of all issued products.

So, you can be sure that products are not harmful to your health and are constantly audited and checked. We give our utmost attention to detail and care for your health with our products while providing an aesthetic look to your room.

The Differences Between Oeko-Tex and Other Certifications

The certificates that are used in the textile market are growing every day. But, it does not mean that every certification signifies that your product is free of harmful substances. The most prestigious certificates used in the market are Oeko-Tex and GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard).

The main difference between the two certifications is their area of expertise. GOTS looks for the products’ fundamental substances, such as wool, cotton, and bamboo. Oeko-Tex, however, looks for harmful substances that the fabric or textile can have while processing.

Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certificate is voluntary and gets updated every year, while the standards for GOTS are always the same. Also, Oeko-Tex certification is given by independent third-party laboratories in more than 40 countries.

Also, the Oeko-Tex standard 100 certification tests look for every possible way harmful substances can enter the human body. Furthermore, while every Oeko-Tex standard 100 certification is for human health, not every GOTS certification necessarily looks for toxic substances.

But, they are universally accepted certifications that give trust in the eyes of the purchasers. You can be sure of your health when seeing Oeko-Tex standard 100 certificates on a product. GOTS also uses two types of labels: Organic and Made with Organic Materials. Their difference is that while Organic is made of %95 organic fibers, ‘’Made with Organic Materials’’ means at least %70 organic fibers. But, if you come across an Oeko-Tex standard 100 label, you are %100 protected from harmful substances.
